This in an interesting Ad that I have found on youtube, and I decided to
share it with you. My purpose on publishing this Ad is, not only that you can
enjoy it, but also that you can identify the hidden persuaders in this Ad.
This Ad is trying to make us consume, as all Ads do, but in this particular
case, the product which is being
advertised is a hamburger. We all know that McDonalds
is one of the most famous fast food companies,, so the crucial question is; how
do they do to make us consume their products? The answer to that question has
to do with the different techniques that McDonalds employs to reach their
objectives. If we pay attention to this Ad, we can easily identify different
techniques such as, humor,
product quality, omission, association and scale. I can assume that they appeal
to the use of humor in their Ads, in order to catch people attention. McDonalds
Ads always have a particular characteristic, the exaggeration of product
quality to make people wish the product they are offering. On the other hand,
we realize that this Ad has another technique to make people consume, it makes
use of omission, and that is, this Ad does not warn us about the consequences
of eating junk food. Another technique used in this Ad is association, I mean,
McDonalds makes us associate this hamburger with the feeling of pleasure. Last,
but not least, this Ad uses another technique, scale. The real hamburger
is smaller than the one that appears in the Ad.
I think that all of us agree
with the assumption that the message of this Ad is that we have to do
whatever we can in order to go to McDonalds and buy a hamburger. In spite of
that, I can admit that as soon as I saw this Ad, it seemed to me very violent.
On the other hand, I have to confess that it made me wish a hamburger! As if it
was not enough, it influences us to go to McDonalds and buy a particular kind
of hamburger, a 'Mc.Combo'.
I really think that it is targeting for young
people since most of adults think eating junk food is bad for health. I believe
this Ad is misleading, since it gives us the wrong impression about the
qualities of the hamburger. Besides, it makes us wish to eat this kind of food
without warning us about its bad consequences for health.
In conclusion, I can say that
this is a good Ad, since it achieves the objective for which it was created,
make people go to McDonalds. In spite of that, I would inform at the end of the
Ad, the consequences of consuming junk food, such as cigarettes do in their
containers.
If I think about things that I
have bought recently, clothes, I have to say that I have bought them first of
all because of their appearance, then because of their prices, and finally
because of their durability.
